Our Civil Graduate Engineer Experience Day went off with a blast. On Friday 22^nd April, we welcomed 15 Graduate Engineers from Seymour Whyte and John Holland to get hands-on, practical experience in civil works.

Our Graduate Engineer’s program has been specifically designed to assist Graduates to further build on the theoretical knowledge obtained through their tertiary studies by providing a realistic and practical experience of working on site and collaborating closely with teams, particularly Tradespeople/Contractors.

The Experience Day focused on practical skills such as utilizing a variety of formwork systems like Doka and PERI along with learning to install Non-Drill handrails, tie steel for a retaining wall and general civil works. Through these works they gained a greater understanding of a typical day of a Tradesperson and they learnt how to effectively plan and work as a team. A key takeaway was learning the importance of Trades and Engineers working collaboratively.

Our Director, Paul Breen also ran a session, sharing his experiences and giving practical advice on how Engineers can increase productivity on site through greater understanding and relationships with Tradespeople and contractors.

Overall, it was a great day. A huge thanks to the Graduate Engineers from Seymour Whyte and John Holland for participating – we hope you got a lot from the day.

As we all know, this year has been extremely stressful due to the lockdowns and restrictions brought about as a result of COVID-19. While this has been difficult for everyone, it has had a significant impact on Year 12 students completing their HSC this year – remote learning was introduced during a time when they needed face-to-face learning the most and exams were pushed back with underlying uncertainties still present…so before we started to place participants in Team 66, we were concerned that there would not be enough interest.

However, this was not the case. The participants chosen to take part in Campbelltown’s HSC Accelerated Program were made aware of the intensity and fast-paced nature of the program. They were made aware that their exams would run through the program and that they would still have to maintain a high level of attendance at Bootcamp. The participants remained keen and did not seem to be deterred by the expectation. They turned up on their first day with a sense of determination and excitement brewing in the air. The excitement levels were also high from the staff as this was the 1^st team back on site since the Campbelltown site was forced into lockdown in July.

So far, Team 66 have described Bootcamp as a positive experience – they are being challenged, keeping active, learning new skills, and making new friends. Despite the stress of their exams, Team 66 still come into Bootcamp the next day and work hard on the tasks they are given.

We are proud of Team 66 for not only the commitment to complete their schooling but also their motivation in completing the program which will ensure they are prepared for the next journey in their lives….the workforce!

In April this year, our Quakers Hill, Campbelltown, and Nowra sites took part in Youth Week celebrations!

We celebrated our young people by organising an afternoon full of different activities for our Bootcampers in Teams 54, 55, and 56. Each site did something a little different ranging from basketball competitions, golf, “ski racing”, bridge building and, of course, what is a celebration without a BBQ lunch! There was a whole lot of fun and laughs on the day!

We are so proud of every single young person who comes through our program. The youth of today have so much potential and we know that if we guide and prepare them, they will be the best workforce to ever hit this world.

The future looks good with our Bootcampers in it!

On Friday the 7^th of May 2021, our Director, Rebecca Embleton, attended the LYSAGHT® 100th Year Anniversary, held at their Emu Plains manufacturing facility. Also in attendance was The Hon. Stuart Ayres MP.

Rebecca and other guests attended to celebrate Lysaght’s role and contribution towards the employment of many people in Western Sydney and the contribution of LYSAGHT® steel building products.

On the day, LYSAGHT® announced that they will be supporting Productivity Bootcamp’s goal to help young people gain employment in the construction industry through an ongoing donation of steel building products, training, and support materials to all our Productivity Bootcamp training sites across NSW. 

We would like to take this opportunity to thank LYSAGHT® for their support and generous donation. You will be making a huge impact to the training, knowledge, and skills learned by our Bootcampers!

On Tuesday 23rd February, we were honoured to be joined by the NSW Premier, The Hon. Gladys Berejikilan, MP who spent the afternoon touring our new site and meeting some of our current and previous Bootcampers from Sydney.

Joining the Premier for the afternoon was the Hon. Shelly Hancock, MP, the Hon. Gareth Ward MP, members of Shoalhaven City Council, Training Services NSW and our amazing South Coast Steering Committee Members.

Our new site will be located in the industrial estate of South Nowra and will offer our transformative program to over 100 people in the next 12-18 months.

It was a fantastic afternoon spent with a fantastic community of people. We are looking forward to settling in to our new home in the Shoalhaven region.

The team at Productivity Bootcamp would like to thank the Shoalhaven community for welcoming us with open arms and for all their support to get our new site this far.

This month our Bootcampers had the opportunity to gain real experience working on a residential renovation project and they absolutely aced it!

The opportunity arose when a member of the community reached out for help to renovate a family home after the loss of a family member. Our Bootcampers jumped at the opportunity to be involved in a real project and of course, to give back to their community.

 They were given invaluable experience and training in renovation tasks like;

• Form up and pour concrete stairs
• Restoration of timber handrails, pergolas and stairs
• Wallpaper removal
• Wall and skirts prep for paint
• Timber staining
• Flooring removal and prep for floorboards
• General handyman tasks and skills

 Located in the suburb of Bullaburra, their first day on the job saw real snow, but that didn’t slow this team down. They arrived to site almost an hour early, keen to get started and learn new things.

 We are proud of our Bootcampers in Team 48 for such a fantastic effort. We know they will add a lot of value to any business once they graduate in a few weeks time and start their journeys in the world of employment.
